About the Yupaha Kongaree Nation
The Yupaha Kongaree Nation is an Indigenous tribal nation with deep ancestral roots in the lands now known as the Southeastern United States. Our people are the descendants of the original stewards of these lands, preserving our identity, culture, and traditions despite centuries of challenges. We honor the legacy of our ancestors by reclaiming our rightful place in history, restoring our tribal sovereignty, and ensuring the continuation of our sacred ways for future generations.
Our Ancestral Legacy
The name Yupaha Kongaree reflects the strength and resilience of our lineage, carrying the stories of our ancestors who thrived in harmony with nature. Our people have long been known as traders, artisans, warriors, and knowledge keepers, passing down sacred traditions that connect us to the land and the spirit of our forebears. We are guided by our elders, who safeguard the wisdom of our past while shaping the vision of our future.
Our Mission & Purpose
The Yupaha Kongaree Nation is committed to the preservation and revitalization of our cultural heritage, historical truth, and legal recognition as an Indigenous nation. Our mission includes:
Cultural Preservation: Restoring our language, traditions, and ancestral knowledge.
Tribal Sovereignty: Affirming our legal rights and self-governance under ancestral and international law.
Community Empowerment: Providing education, resources, and opportunities for our people.
Environmental Stewardship: Protecting our sacred lands and natural resources for future generations.
Reclaiming Our Identity & Recognition
Our people have endured generations of historical misclassification and systemic erasure, including the wrongful reclassification of our ancestors under laws such as the Racial Integrity Act of 1924. These injustices led to the loss of land, resources, and legal protections. Today, we stand in unity to correct these historical wrongs, affirming our Aboriginal and Indigenous identity through legal actions, ancestral documentation, and tribal governance.
The Yupaha Kongaree Nation continues to work toward official recognition and the protection of our rights, ensuring that our people are accurately represented and that our sovereignty is upheld in accordance with international Indigenous rights frameworks.
Our Future
As we reclaim our rightful place in history, we remain dedicated to strengthening our tribal community, fostering relationships with Indigenous nations worldwide, and advocating for policies that protect our people and our lands. We invite those who share our vision to learn, connect, and support the ongoing journey of the Yupaha Kongaree people.
Ancestral Oceanic Lineage & Spiritual Kinship
The Yupaha Kongaree Nation honors its ancestral ties to the original seafaring peoples migrations spanned vast oceans long before colonial borders were imposed/ Among these sacred lineages are connections to the Maori - the Indigenous people of Aotearoa (New Zealand) - whose ancestors are renowned for their mastery of celestial navigation, ocean voyaging, and land stewardship. These ancient Polynesian navigators carried with them spiritual laws, oral traditions, and cosmologies that resonate deeply with the Yupaha Kongaree understanding of creation, kinship, and harmony with the natural world.
Our acknowledgment of Maori ancestry is rooted in shared Indigenous knowledge systems, migratory histories, and spiritual principals passed down through bloodlines and oral memory. This connection is not a claim of modern tribal enrollment or political authority, but a recognition of ancestral kinship and cultural alignment. The Yupaha Kongaree Nation stands in respect and solidarity with the Maori people and all Indigenous nations who continue to protect their sovereignty, language, and sacred relationship to the land and sea.
